GCB: 2023-2024 Season Begins

The Fall Season for 2023 is here!  We meet at the Meadowcreek High School band room on Monday evenings from 7:00 – 9:00 when Gwinnett County Schools are in session.  We look forward to our new season with the addition of some new musicians.

If you want to join a community group, please attend a rehearsal and try us out.  We have openings in the following sections:  Alto Sax, Percussion (Mallets, Accessories, Set), Bassoon, Tuba, Clarinet & Flute.

This Fall, we will have several new songs to learn.  Here is a list of some of our selections:

  • Girl I Left Behind Me
This song is an English folk song from the Elizabethan era.  Legend has this song played when soldiers leave for war or set sail on a naval vessel.  The melody is from a traditional Irish melody known as An Spailpin Fánach, meaning “The Wandering Labourer”.  Arranged by Leroy Anderson, this will be an audience favorite.

  • Waltz #2
This piece was originally scored for symphony orchestra Shostakovich’s “Jazz Suite No. 2”.  The addition of saxophones, accordions, and guitar is noteworthy.

  • Nathan Hale Trilogy
This work is inspired by three significant points in the life of this American hero.

  • Star Wars Heroes
For decades, the music of this saga has entertained us with melodic lines that draw us back to the well-known story.

  • The Hounds of Spring
Composed in 1908 by Alfred Reed, this concert overture captures the youthful exuberance and the tenderness of love.

  • Danny Boy
Warren Barker arranges this popular tune into a gorgeous concert ballad.  The Textures and lush harmonies are blended into a stunning program piece.

  • Africa
The infectious groove of this chart-topping hit from the band Toto is timeless and will surely please audiences of all ages.  The percussion section is featured in this song.
